India installed a record 2.7 GW of rooftop solar in January–March 2026, up 125% year-on-year, taking total rooftop capacity to about 23.5 GW.
Residential systems made up nearly 82% of the quarter’s installations. Maharashtra led with over 17%, followed by Uttar Pradesh (16%) and Gujarat (15%).
As of 20 March 2026, more than 2.62 million systems had been installed under PM Surya Ghar, benefiting about 3.24 million households. Demand is clearly shifting from early adopters to the mainstream.
